Safety Instructions

Read and understand all safety information before operating.

  1. Always wear appropriate safety gear: eye protection, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
  2. Clear mowing area of debris, toys, and obstacles before starting.
  3. Never allow children or pets in area during operation.
  4. Do not mow on slopes greater than 15 degrees; mow across slopes, not up and down.
  5. Engage parking brake before dismounting; ensure engine is off and key removed for service.

WARNING! Keep hands and feet away from moving parts. Never remove safety devices or guards. Risk of fire or explosion - do not add fuel while engine is hot or running.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires basic tools.

  1. Install steering lap bars: Attach to control panel per diagram, secure with provided pins.
  2. Attach seat: Position on seat plate, secure with bolts.
  3. Connect battery (if electric start): Attach red (+) then black (-) cables.
  4. Check tire pressure: Inflate to PSI indicated on sidewall.
  5. Add engine oil and fuel: Use types specified in Engine section.
  6. Perform pre-operation check: Inspect for loose parts, leaks, damaged components.

CAUTION! Use assistance when handling heavy components like the cutting deck. Ensure all bolts are tightened to specified torque.

Controls & Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting engine.

Control Panel: Ignition key, Choke, Throttle, PTO (Blade Engage) lever, Deck lift lever, Hour meter, Fuel gauge.

Steering: Move lap bars forward together to go straight. To turn, move one bar slower than the other or opposite for zero-turn. Pull both bars back to reverse (ensure area is clear).

Starting Procedure: Sit in seat, engage parking brake, set throttle to fast, turn key to START. Engage blades only when ready to mow. Shutdown: Disengage PTO, set throttle to slow, turn key to OFF, remove key, engage parking brake.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures performance and safety.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck tire pressure, fuel/oil levels, inspect for damage, clear deck of debris.
Every 8 hoursCheck mower deck belt tension, lubricate pivot points.
Every 25 hoursChange engine oil (first 5 hours on new mower), check air filter, clean cooling fins.
Every 50 hoursReplace air filter, check spark plug, sharpen/replace blades.
Every 100 hoursChange hydrostatic fluid and filter (if equipped), check battery terminals.
SeasonallyGrease fittings, check tire condition, inspect seat safety switch.

Tip: Record maintenance in log using hour meter readings.

Blade Care & Replacement

Sharp, balanced blades ensure clean cut and reduce engine strain.

  1. Disconnect spark plug wire to prevent accidental start.
  2. Secure deck: Use jack stands, never rely on lift mechanism alone.
  3. Remove blade bolt (left-hand thread - turn clockwise to loosen).
  4. Sharpen blade maintaining original angle; balance using blade balancer.
  5. Reinstall with bolt torqued to 70-90 ft-lbs. Reconnect spark plug wire.

WARNING! Wear heavy gloves. Replace blades if cracked, excessively worn, or out of balance.

Engine Care

Refer to separate engine manual for detailed specifications.

Oil: Use SAE 30 (above 40°F) or 10W-30 (all temperatures). Capacity: approx. 2 quarts. Change when dirty or at recommended intervals. Air Filter: Clean foam pre-cleaner with soapy water, dry, re-oil. Replace paper element when dirty. Fuel: Use fresh gasoline; add fuel stabilizer for storage over 30 days. Spark Plug: Gap 0.030"; replace annually.

Storage

Prepare mower for off-season storage to prevent damage.

  1. Clean entire mower, especially underside of deck.
  2. Change engine oil and run for few minutes to circulate.
  3. Add fuel stabilizer to tank, run engine 10 minutes, then either drain carburetor or fill tank completely.
  4. Remove battery, clean terminals, store in cool dry place on trickle charger.
  5. Store in dry, covered location; elevate deck off ground if possible.

CAUTION! Do not store with fuel in tank without stabilizer. Gummed carburetor is common cause of spring starting issues.
