Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operating the tractor.

  1. Clear the mowing area of debris, toys, and other objects before starting.
  2. Always wear sturdy footwear, eye protection, and hearing protection.
  3. Do not allow children or untrained persons to operate the tractor.
  4. Never carry passengers.
  5. Do not mow on slopes greater than 15 degrees. Mow up and down slopes, not across.
  6. Shut off the engine and remove the key before performing any maintenance or clearing a blockage.

WARNING! Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel outdoors in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke near fuel.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts against the packing list. Assembly requires basic tools.

  1. Install the steering wheel: Align and secure with provided hardware.
  2. Attach the seat: Bolt the seat assembly to the frame using the included bolts and washers.
  3. Install the battery: Connect the red (+) cable first, then the black (-) cable. Secure the battery hold-down.
  4. Check tire pressure: Inflate all tires to the recommended PSI listed in the Specifications section.
  5. Add engine oil and fuel: Use the type and quantity specified in the manual. Do not overfill.
  6. Attach the mower deck (if shipped separately): Follow the specific deck installation instructions.

CAUTION! The mower deck is heavy. Use assistance or a lifting device to avoid injury during installation.

Controls and Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Key Controls: Ignition Switch, Throttle/Choke Control, Hydrostatic Drive Pedal (Forward/Reverse), Brake Pedal, Parking Brake Lever, PTO (Blade Engage) Switch, Deck Lift Lever, Headlight Switch.

Starting Procedure: 1. Sit in the seat. 2. Set the parking brake. 3. Ensure the PTO switch is OFF. 4. Move the throttle to the CHOKE position (cold engine) or FAST position (warm engine). 5. Turn the ignition key to START. Release when the engine starts. 6. Adjust the throttle to desired operating speed.

Driving: Release the parking brake. Press the brake pedal to disengage the transmission lock. To move forward, slowly press the top of the drive pedal with your toe. To reverse, press the bottom of the pedal with your heel. The further you press, the faster you go.

Mower Deck Operation

For a clean, even cut, always operate with the engine at full throttle.

  1. Engaging the Blades: Ensure the area is clear. Move the throttle to FAST. Pull up on the PTO switch to engage the mower deck.
  2. Adjusting Cutting Height: Stop the tractor on level ground with the blades disengaged. Move the deck lift lever to the desired height setting.
  3. Mowing Patterns: Overlap each pass by a few inches for an even cut. Change your mowing direction periodically to prevent grass from leaning in one direction.
  4. Disengaging the Blades: Push down on the PTO switch to turn off the blades before stopping the tractor or crossing driveways/gravel.

WARNING! Never reach under the mower deck while the engine is running, even if the blades are disengaged. Blades can rotate due to wind.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance is crucial for safety and performance. Refer to the manual for detailed procedures.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck tire pressure, engine oil level, and for loose hardware or damage.
Every 8 hoursCheck mower deck for debris buildup. Clean if necessary.
Every 25 hoursCheck and clean air filter. Lubricate all grease fittings.
Every 50 hoursChange engine oil and oil filter (more frequently in dusty conditions).
Every 100 hoursReplace spark plug(s). Check and adjust drive belt tension.
SeasonallySharpen or replace mower blades. Check battery charge and terminals.

Storage & Winterization

Proper storage prevents fuel system damage and corrosion.

  1. Add a fuel stabilizer to a full tank of gas and run the engine for 5 minutes to circulate it through the system.
  2. Change the engine oil and filter at the end of the season (dirty oil contains acids).
  3. Remove the battery, clean the terminals, and store it in a cool, dry place on a trickle charger.
  4. Thoroughly clean the mower deck and tractor underside to remove grass and debris.
  5. Store the tractor in a clean, dry place, protected from the elements.

CAUTION! Do not store the tractor with fuel in the carburetor without stabilizer, as it will form gums and varnish that clog fuel passages.
