Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before operating. Wear appropriate safety gear.

  1. Clear area: Remove stones, toys, and debris from mowing area.
  2. Inspect machine: Check for loose parts, leaks, or damage before use.
  3. Fuel safely: Refuel outdoors with engine off and cool.
  4. Operate safely: Keep hands and feet away from moving parts.
  5. Slope operation: Mow across slopes, not up and down.

WARNING! Never allow children to operate. Disengage blades before crossing driveways or gravel surfaces.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Follow assembly steps carefully.

  1. Attach steering wheel: Align and secure with provided hardware.
  2. Install seat: Mount seat onto frame and tighten bolts.
  3. Connect battery: Attach cables (red positive, black negative).
  4. Add fluids: Fill engine with oil and fuel as specified.
  5. Adjust cutting height: Set deck to desired height before first use.

CAUTION! Use proper tools. Ensure all fasteners are tight before operation.

Controls & Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Control Panel: Ignition key, Throttle lever, Choke knob, PTO (blade engage) switch, Hour meter.

Operation Steps: 1. Sit on seat. 2. Set parking brake. 3. Move throttle to fast position. 4. Engage choke if cold. 5. Turn ignition key to start. 6. Disengage parking brake. 7. Use drive pedal to move forward/reverse. 8. Engage PTO switch to start blades.

Shutdown: Disengage PTO, move throttle to slow, turn key off, remove key.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures longevity and performance.

  1. Before each use: Check tire pressure, inspect blades, check for leaks.
  2. Every 8 hours: Clean deck underside, check battery terminals.
  3. Every 50 hours: Change engine oil, replace oil filter.
  4. Every 100 hours: Replace air filter, spark plug.
  5. Seasonally: Sharpen/replace blades, lubricate fittings, check belts.

Tip: Refer to engine manual for specific engine maintenance intervals.

Cutting Deck Adjustment

Proper deck adjustment ensures even cutting.

  1. Park on level surface, disengage PTO, set parking brake.
  2. Measure cutting height at all four deck corners.
  3. Adjust lift linkage to level deck side-to-side and front-to-back.
  4. Check blade alignment; blades should be within 1/8 inch.
  5. Test mow and readjust if cutting pattern is uneven.

WARNING! Always disconnect spark plug wire before working under deck.

Storage & Winterization

Prepare tractor for extended storage, especially winter.

  1. Clean entire tractor, especially cutting deck.
  2. Change oil and filter (if due).
  3. Add fuel stabilizer to tank and run engine for 5 minutes.
  4. Disconnect battery and store in cool, dry place.
  5. Store in dry, covered location, preferably on blocks to relieve tire pressure.

CAUTION! Do not store with fuel in carburetor without stabilizer.

Warranty Information

Craftsman T 1000 includes a 2-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Warranty does not cover normal wear, misuse, or lack of maintenance. Keep original receipt as proof of purchase. For warranty service, contact an authorized Craftsman service center.
