Assembly & Setup

Most units are partially assembled. Follow these steps for final assembly:

  1. Unpack and inspect all parts against the packing list.
  2. Install steering wheel: Align and tighten bolt securely.
  3. Attach seat: Mount using provided bolts and washers.
  4. Connect battery: Positive (red) then negative (black) terminals.
  5. Check tire pressure: Inflate to 14 PSI (front) and 10 PSI (rear).
  6. Add engine oil: Use SAE 30 or 10W-30, fill to dipstick mark.
  7. Add fuel: Use fresh unleaded gasoline (87 octane minimum).

WARNING! Do not start engine until assembly is complete and all fasteners are tightened.

Controls & Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

Dashboard: Ignition key, PTO engagement switch, throttle/choke, hour meter.

Steering & Drive: Steering wheel, forward/reverse pedal (hydrostatic), brake pedal.

Starting Procedure:

  3. Spark Plug: Gap at 0.030 inches; replace annually (Champion RC12YC).
  4. Fuel System: Use fuel stabilizer if storing over 30 days; replace fuel filter annually.
  5. Cooling: Keep cooling fins and engine shrouds clean of debris.

CAUTION! Disconnect spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.

Cutting Deck Maintenance

Proper deck care ensures a clean cut and prevents damage.

  1. Blade Sharpening: Remove deck; secure blade in vise. Sharpen at original angle; balance before reinstalling.
  2. Belt Inspection: Check for cracks or wear; adjust tension if slipping occurs.
  3. Deck Cleaning: After each use, clean underside with hose or scraper to prevent rust and buildup.
  4. Deck Leveling: Adjust gauge wheels so front is ¼-inch lower than rear for even cut.
  5. Spindle Lubrication: Grease zerks every 25 hours of operation.

Storage & Winterization

Prepare your mower for extended storage, especially over winter.

  1. Drain or stabilize fuel: Run engine dry or add fuel stabilizer.
  2. Change oil: Fresh oil prevents acid buildup during storage.
  3. Remove battery: Store in cool, dry place; charge monthly.
  4. Clean thoroughly: Remove grass, dirt, and debris from entire mower.
  5. Protect deck: Apply light oil to underside to prevent rust.
