Unpack all parts from the box. Assembly requires basic tools (included: wrench, screwdriver).
WARNING! Do not attempt to start the engine before adding oil and gasoline. Ensure all fasteners are tight.
Read and understand all safety rules before operation.
DANGER! The rotating blade can cause severe injury. Keep hands and feet away from the deck at all times.
Primary controls located on the handle.
Handle Controls: Drive Control Bar (must be held to propel mower and engage blade), Recoil Starter Grip, Height Adjustment Lever.
Engine Controls: Throttle Control (Choke/Run/Stop positions), Primer Bulb (2-3 presses for cold start).
Operation: To mow, hold the drive control bar against the handle. This engages the blade brake clutch (BBC) and allows self-propulsion (if equipped). Releasing the bar stops the blade and drive within 3 seconds.
For a cold engine:
Stopping: Release the drive control bar to stop the blade. Move throttle control to STOP position. For emergency stop, release the drive control bar immediately.
Tip: For a warm engine, use the RUN position instead of CHOKE.
Adjust all four wheels simultaneously with the single lever.
Recommended: Do not cut more than 1/3 of the grass blade length at one time. For tall grass, use a higher setting for the first pass.
Configure for mulching, bagging, or side discharge.
WARNING! Always stop the engine before changing the discharge mode.
| Maintenance Task | Frequency |
|---|---|
| Check engine oil level | Before each use |
| Check for loose fasteners | Before each use |
| Clean underside of deck | After each use (when cool) |
| Check/clean air filter | Every 25 hours |
| Change engine oil | First 5 hours, then every 50 hours or season |
| Replace spark plug | Every 100 hours or season |
| Sharpen or replace blade | Every 25 hours or as needed |
| Lubricate wheel bearings | Every season |
CAUTION! Always disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any maintenance.
Proper storage extends mower life.
WARNING! Gasoline is flammable. Never store the mower with fuel in the tank indoors or near an open flame.
| Symptom | Possible Cause | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Engine will not start | No fuel, old fuel, choke not set, spark plug wire disconnected | Add fresh gas, set choke to COLD START, check spark plug connection, press primer 2-3 times. |
| Engine runs poorly or stalls | Dirty air filter, clogged fuel line, old gasoline | Clean/replace air filter, drain old fuel and refill with fresh, check for debris in carburetor. |
| Mower vibrates excessively | Damaged or unbalanced blade, loose parts | Stop engine immediately. Check blade for damage/bends and tighten all bolts. |
| Uneven cutting | Dull blade, uneven tire pressure, deck clogged | Sharpen or replace blade, clean deck, check that all wheels are on same height setting. |
| Mower does not self-propel (if equipped) | Drive cable not adjusted, drive belt worn or broken | Check drive control bar engagement; inspect and replace drive belt if necessary. |
| Grass bag not filling | Deck clogged, wet grass, engine speed too low | Clean deck underside, mow when grass is dry, operate at full throttle. |
