Operation Instructions

Starting, operating, and stopping procedures.

  1. Pre-start check: Verify oil level, fuel, clear deck of debris, set cutting height.
  2. Starting engine: Move throttle to FAST position. Pull recoil starter briskly.
  3. Engaging blade: With engine running, pull blade control lever toward handle.
  4. Mowing: Walk at steady pace, overlapping passes slightly for even cut.
  5. Stopping: Release blade control lever, move throttle to STOP, wait for blade to stop.
  6. Emptying bag: Stop engine, remove bag, empty clippings away from mower.

CAUTION! Never leave mower unattended with engine running. Always disengage blade when crossing driveways or gravel.

Cutting Height Adjustment

Adjust height to match grass type and conditions.

  1. Locate single-lever adjuster on each wheel.
  2. Pull lever outward, move to desired height notch (1-6).
  3. Release lever to lock position. Adjust all four wheels to same height.
  4. Recommended heights: 2.5-3 inches for most grasses; higher in hot/dry conditions.

Tip: For first mow of season, set to highest setting, then gradually lower.

Maintenance Schedule

Engine Care

Briggs & Stratton engine maintenance.

  1. Oil change: Warm engine, drain plug under deck. Refill with SAE 30 (20W-50 in hot climates). Capacity: 20 oz.
  2. Air filter: Remove cover, clean foam pre-filter in soapy water, replace paper element if dirty.
  3. Spark plug: Gap 0.030 inches. Replace annually.
  4. Fuel system: Use fresh gas. If storing over 30 days, add stabilizer or drain tank.

WARNING! Engine is hot after use. Allow to cool before servicing.

Blade Sharpening & Replacement

Sharp blade ensures clean cut and healthy grass.

  1. Disconnect spark plug wire.
  2. Tip mower on side (carburetor side up). Block blade with wood.
  3. Remove blade bolt (clockwise to loosen – left-hand thread).
  4. Sharpen with file or grinder, maintaining original angle. Balance blade.
  5. Reinstall blade with bolt (tighten securely). Torque: 450-600 in-lbs.
  6. Replace blade if cracked, bent, or excessively worn.

CAUTION! Always wear heavy gloves when handling blade.

Storage Guidelines

Proper storage extends mower life.
